Alpharetta Internal Medicine and Cumming Internal Medicine is pleased to now offer a new and exciting way for our patients to communicate with our office and your provider. Many of you have used this service in the past but it has been expanded to cover new services.

The current situation in Medicine now requires an enormous amount of paperwork. Unfortunately, we are being forced to use Nursing Staff to handle these requests for pre-authorization, 90 date prescriptions, etc. Patients must remember that your provider is not required to do pre-authorizations or 90 day prescriptions, these are provided as a convenience for the patients, and it saves money for the patient. Therefore, we have continued to offer these services, unfortunately they cannot remain free. As nurses are required to handle these issues, our staffing costs will not allow the current situation to remain. This has prompted the development of the Electronic Patient.

This service is offered as a way to avoid the voice mail system and will most likely increase the speed with which your question or problem is handled. We will be using the Internet and Email to allow patients that wish to sign up for this server, a new way to communicate with the practice. This can be done on your own schedule and hopefully provide a new convenience for our patients.

The way the service will work is that for a yearly fee of $40.00, you will receive a package of services. Any services paid for prior to signing up will not be counted toward the fee, so it is important to sign up early. These services will allow our Electronic Patients to:

1. Make appointments over the internet via E-Mail at your convenience. We have special staff who only handle Electronic Patients and will respond to your request.
2. The ability to request Prescription refills via E-Mail.
3. The ability to communicate directly with the Billing Office Manager to resolve any issues with your insurance. Attachments and documents can be emailed when they are needed.
4. The ability to send updates on your condition or ask simple questions regarding your medications directly to your doctor in your own words.
5. Lab and x-ray results can be sent directly to you vie E-Mail. This can be done for your own personal records or to carry with you to a consultant visit with another doctor. This will eliminate a trip to the office to pick up a copy.
6. Pre-authorization for Medications! Please Read!
   The area of pre-authorizations has become a huge issue for the practice. The average hold time per medication is around 10 minutes. This means it takes approximately one hour to do six pre-authorizations. Unfortunately, this is the current situation, and we must find a way to deal with this issue to avoid having our nurses on the phone all day and unable to take care of patient related issues. This service is included if you are an electronic patient. If you chose not to enroll, then you will be billed $5.00 for each pre-authorization.
